World Food Day
Every year, people celebrate World Food Day. Its main goal is to remind us of the millions of people who are malnourished for many reasons.Climate changes, wars, transitions and lack of money due to a lack of jobs are the most common reasons. This year’s campaign points out the fact that all the problems worldwide gather in one simple question-the availability and safety of food. This question is not only for the governments and business owners, but for each one of us equally. This year’s global campaign has the goal to reach the individuals and to wake up solidarity and empathy. I appreciate food and wish to reach as many people as possible with easy, healthy and cheap meals. Restaurants, deliveries and ready to eat dinnersare a challenge to us, however I recommend home cooking for so many reasons.
How did the World Food Day start?
People all over the world celebrate World food day on 16 th October. The UN‘s Food and Agriculture Organization established it in 1945 and so far 150 countries worldwide have established it. Its main goal is to promote awareness for the people who are suffering from hunger.

The importance of World Food Day
According to the statistic, one in 10 persons worldwide is malnourished and one in 5 children under the age of 5 is scrubby. The teason is the inadequate diet. In Africa, almost 20% of people face hunger every day. According to the report for 2022, the hunger rose comparing to the previous years and the reason is mostly unrecovered economy. After the Covid-19 pandemic the largest problem appeared in the poor coutries. What scares more is the prediction that by
2030, the number of undernourished people will rise to 8% of the world’s population. On the other hand one in 4 people on our planet is overweight which leads us to the conclusion that to some people food is more than available. But, let’s ask ourselves: What kind of food is available and cheap at the same time.
What is done to overcome the malnutrition?
The FAO points out that the time has come for the governments to plan the budget so that farmers and food producers should have benefits when they buy new equipment or when it comes to the tax payment. Food systems should be more sustainable and efficient thanks to the modern approach to the problem.
What can we do as individuals to help overcome the problem?
Each one of us, no matter if we are young or old, can do something about this problem, so here are some of the things that we can do.
- Be brave and face the problems that you see in your neighborhood
- Influence the society-write about the problems to the municipality or community stuff
- Donate food and begin to appreciate food
- Support local food business
- Save the electricity in your home
“The sustainable planet” is the only solution- that is the world where everyone is equally important.
According to that idea, this year’s World Food Day is called Leave No One behind.
